Wow, check out these cute Clampett designs!
I'm not sure who drew them, but they are obviously in his style. He sure had a knack for cute cartoons.
Then there's his bizarre puppet style. Maybe Bob, like many cartoonists thought puppets are supposed to be kinda scary.

Here's the early cartoon version of the puppets, sort of half puppet/half cartoon.
Tomorrow a really thrilling post on how Clampett mixes cuteness with the sickest jokes!
This is a fantastic blended attribute of the best cartoons.

I'm amazed on how Beany was both the cutest cartoon character ever and the most horrifying puppet. There's a really scary green one here.
My puppets are cute, though they have a very strong Clampett cartoon style in their design. Jim Henson was a huge inspiration to me, but he kind of killed what puppets used to be for all time.
Some puppets are creepy. But I never thought Cecil was creep, at all!
When I was a kid some of the Muppets scared the crap out of me.
that daffy gag scarred me for life
That last Daffy drawing is so SOLID and appealing, it's amazing! I feel like I could just reach in through the screen/picture and grab feel him as if though he were an actual 3 dimensional living being. Beautiful drawing.
Nothing better then weird puppets and good cartoons. Nothing better.
what in the tarnation is goin' on in that daffy picture???
Hey John-
I literally just saw with my own innocent eyes a rack in a greeting card store labelled, and I kid you not - "Almost Funny".
Kinda confirms everything you've ever said about modern entertainment, doesn't it?
Puppets must be scary. It's what they do.
I always felt a bit guilty for adoring Clampett's cartoon work, but finding those puppets a bit unsettling. But as others pointed out- maybe puppets are a bit unsettling in general.
If you haven't seen it before, you may get a kick out of this split screan clip of Puppet Cecil and Cartoon Cecil singing "Ragmop"
Both are over the top in their own way. And Cartoon Cecil does a great job of playing piano without hands!
